The Lisbon European Council defined an ambitious strategy for Europe to become ’the most competitive and dynamic knowledge-based economy in the world’, emphasising the need for the creation of an environment conducive to starting up and developing innovative businesses and especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Increasing the rate of new business creation by women is essential to stimulate innovation and employment in our economies.
